Grand renovated Victorian in Lower Pacific Heights, just one block to Whole Foods and Lafayette Park! Built in 1885, this elegant home has been meticulously renovated to open up the interior entertaining spaces while preserving charming historical details and woodwork.

A main staircase leads to the front door, framed by elegant columns and balustrade. The entry boasts soaring 11’+ ceilings and sophisticated dark hardwood flooring throughout. The double living room/great room offers a front seating area with decorative marble-topped fireplace and built-in bookshelves next to the bay window, which drenches the room in sunlight throughout the day. There is incredible woodwork and details throughout, including cornices, paneling, crown molding, arches and rosettes. On the other side of the room is a second seating area next to another window bay with an additional marble-topped fireplace, creating multiple seating and entertaining options.

Under the main staircase is a thoughtful area for a bench and off the living room is a chic powder room outfitted with black and white mosaic tile and brass fixtures, as well as a coat closet. Arched doorways with detailed trim lead to the generous formal dining room, appearing even larger due to the high ceilings. The dining room seats 8-12 comfortably, and has a china closet for storage, a decorative fireplace, and access to the side yard.

The chef’s kitchen is open to the dining room and centers around an L-shaped design of marble countertops and beautiful wood veneer cabinetry, with a stainless farmhouse sink and window to the garden in the middle. On the right side, the L-shape forms a peninsula with an overhang for a breakfast bar. Along the long wall of the kitchen are upper and lower cabinets, additional counterspace, and a stunning marble backsplash. Thermador Professional appliances include a six-burner gas range and griddle, a dishwasher and a French door refrigerator. There is built-in pantry storage at one end, and endless amounts of space for cooking and informal gathering. At the back of the kitchen is a delightful, bright breakfast area, surrounded by windows to the garden and ideal for informal dining.

Adjacent to the kitchen and dining rooms is a lovely side garden, professionally designed, with a perfectly-sized dining area and built-in heater overhead for al fresco dining and area for BBQing. Wood decking and stone pavers delineate the separate seating/dining areas, and both front and rear gardens are on programmable drip irrigation systems. String lights overhead add warmth and charm to the landscaped seating section, surrounded by a colorful bougainvillea tree and bamboo.

Off the garden is the entrance (which can be accessed separately from the main home) to a fabulous one bedroom, one-bathroom suite – perfect for guests, au pair, in-law, or teenagers! This private space is beautifully renovated and complete with a wet bar area with beverage fridge, sink, and sleek cabinetry.

Up the main stairs of the home, framed by balustrades and a charming niche, is the main residential floor, with three bedrooms and two bathrooms. At the front is a large bedroom with multiple closets, decorative fireplace, and a built-in sink niche, a nod to the Victorian era. Expansive bay windows flood the room with eastern morning light. Down the hallway is a generous second bedroom, also with two closets and a sink niche, and across the hall is a double storage closet. The shared bathroom is clad in marble and porcelain tile, with a unique double trough in-wall sink, mixed metal fixtures, and a shower over claw foot tub.

The oversized master suite is comprised of multiple rooms for relaxing, working, sleeping, and bathing. At the entrance is a wide seating area around a decorative fireplace, framed by built-in bookshelves and with a linen/storage closet adjacent. There are multiple window nooks for additional seating and around the corner is a separate office, equipped with overhead bookshelves, built-in desk, cabinets, and large windows allowing in tons of natural light. In the bedroom area, there is a roomy walk in closet and a second closet, and at the back of the room is the spacious and stunning ensuite master bathroom. Neighborhood

Lower Pacific Heights offers home buyers a stylish, upscale-feeling neighborhood bolstered by an approachable, casual attitude. Within the confines of these blocks, you'll find Japantown, the oldest and largest such enclave in the United States. From the spectacle of the Peace Plaza pagoda to the grandeur of St. Dominic's Church, it really seems there's something here for everyone. This area is a shopper's delight, with bustling commercial centers along both Fillmore and Steiner streets. The Japan Center mall is a mecca for all things Japanese. When it comes time to eat, the possibilities are endless. Evenings see the streets fill with patrons looking to dine at one of many gastronomic destinations, or music fans lining up at the Boom Boom Room and the adjacent historic Fillmore Theater. Sundance Kabuki Cinema is a welcome addition to the neighborhood; as the largest independent theater in the city, the Kabuki screens first run features and plays host to a number of film festivals, attracting cinephiles from all over the Bay Area. The neighborhood is home to an interesting mix of classic Victorian homes and mid-rise condo developments. As throughout much of the city, you'll find wonderful diversity among your neighbors. You can get a picture of the sense of community that exists in this diverse pocket of the city each April during the Cherry Blossom Festival. Freeway access has been greatly improved in recent years thanks to the completion of the Octavia corridor freeway entrance, opening up the area to south and east bay commuters.
